This is an intermediate Hindi Reader of five volumes that translates 108 Bollywood Hindi Film Songs into English with Vocabulary and Commentary similar to Latin and Ancient Greek texts. The Hindi text is written out line by line with romanization to help non-Hindi readers to be able to read the songs as well as to learn how to read Devanagari script. References to Hindi grammar texts are highlighted, if necessary, so you can find the appropriate sections to help you further understand difficult grammatical concepts. The songs are translated into English matching closely the Hindi words like an interlinear text. Eventually Urdu script is introduced in Volume III to help readers also learn this form of writing and language which was dominant in Bollywood in the 20th Century. As far as we know this is the first time this has been done with the Hindi and Urdu languages. Bollywood songs are very popular and can be inaccessible if you do not know the language, even to Indians or people who speak Hindi or Urdu only. I hope this reader can help people understand Hindi-Urdu songs better and appreciate the wonderul, beautiful, and colorful culture of India.
